Schlumbergera ‘Pink Petticoats’
The plant picture is similar to the plant being sold. Shipped in a 4” pot. Look at this variety on Schlumbergera.net for photos of the flower.
This is not your grandmother‘s Thanksgiving Cactus! Schlumbergera ‘Pink Petticoats’ is a new variety of Holiday Cactus with completely different flowers than what is found commercially. This is a unique double-flower cultivar that has many times more petals than your common Zygocactus. These flowers are quite large and hang from the plant like whispy paper lanterns. The petals come in a complex arrangement of white, pink, and orange. The flowers also last much longer than normal Holdiay Cacti blooms, with each bloom giving color for about two weeks each. Schlumbergera ‘Pink Petticoats’ blooms in early to mid winter, although you can expect flowers earlier or later depending on the amount of daylight hours you are receiving.
This plant does excellent indoors on a bright windowsill. Allow the media to dry slightly between waterings. This is especially important after it has flowered, since the plant will be stressed after putting much of his energy into producing blooms, making it more susceptible to root rot. For me, this plant does really well outdoors in South Florida and subtropical climate. Really one of the most unique holiday cactus you can purchase.
